Reknowned Catholic apologist &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Madrid" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Madrid"&gt;Patrick Madrid&lt;/a&gt; argues that the Catholic Church's teaching is that humans are ensouled at conception.  (I personally remain unconvinced that there is a clear teaching from the Church on ensoulment.
